Benjamin J. Salazar, MBA, MSEd

The grandson of Mexican farmworkers, Benjamin attended Brown University from Houston, Texas as a high school valedictorian and first-generation college student. He has remained active as an alumnus, receiving alumni leadership awards, including recent honors as a member of the President's Advisory Council and Marshal for the Brown University Corporation. He continued his studies at Sarah Lawrence College for an MSEd program, where he was the Graduate Commencement Speaker, and also earned a dual MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he won a full fellowship, and a teaching assistantship in Economics. He is involved at the board level with numerous nonprofits, finance councils, and investment committees. He deployed $240 million as a board member for the City of Dallas, Dallas Development Fund, and was a Commissioner for the City of Austin on the Economic Prosperity Commission. Benjamin is an Investment Adviser Representative, FINRA Series 65.

For more than 20 years as an energy, commercial, and venture banker, Benjamin has had a special interest in entrepreneurship and investments. He has held leadership positions at the world's major banks, including Citi, Wells Fargo, and BBVA. For Morgan Stanley Smith-Barney, he was the capital advisor to financial advisors and their clients. At Citi, he was a senior vice president relationship manager in Dallas, primarily focused on oil & gas operators, middle-market business owners, and investors. Later, at Wells Fargo and BBVA, he developed a broad portfolio of real estate investor, family office, and business owner clients. He has also assisted the Swiss private bank, J. Safra Sarasin Asset Management.  He is an active angel investor, angel group leader, and venture partner. As managing partner of Salazar Capital Ventures (the dba for South Congress Ventures LLC), he has provided investment advisory services to investment fund general partners, venture studios, accelerators, and startup founder/CEOs.
